Introducing…the Barwick vase

My favourite thing about Summer is the beautiful flowers growing in my garden. Everyone asks me why I don't sell the flowers I grow, and the answer is simple, they are for me to enjoy. Most mornings, I walk out to my backyard with clippers in hand, looking for the blooms ready to come inside our home. Whether it's a stem or two, or more, I love having flowers on our kitchen counter or table. I know I'm not the only one...

When I decided to start a curated collection for the home, I knew that the pieces I would source had to be intentional. That is why I am excited to welcome the Barwick vase by Accent Decor to our shop. It's the perfect small vase for floral enthusiasts! The frog lid allows you to create beautiful arrangements in minutes. Follow my simple step-by-step to create your own arrangement with our new Barwick vase.

First thing first, add fresh water to your vase. Although the lid is removable, which makes it easier to change the water, having water when you start arranging will keep your flowers hydrated.

I always start with greenery. I suggest having 2 different types of greenery for colour, shape and texture. In this arrangement, I worked with local Boxwood and Baptisia foliage. The little holes in the lid are perfect to add sprigs throughout the surface for coverage.

I have fallen in love with the filler flower ‘‘Malva’’ that I discovered through my friend Nadine, of Blumen Fields Flower Farm in Enderby. The stems are thin but sturdy and the tips have these little buds of white flowers that soften any arrangement. I just love it. One or two stems of that makes a difference. Cutting the little twigs in different heights adds depth to the arrangement.

Another favourite filler flower of mine is Yarrow. It grows pretty much anywhere and when in it’s glory, takes up quite a bit of space in arrangement. The flat head can sometimes play the part of an accent flower.

Finally, the star of the show: my garden roses! These beauties deserved to be arranged, so I went and got a few clippings, let them hydrate in my cooler for a couple hours before. Their sizes were perfect for this arrangement. Another reason I love this vase so much is how little ingredients it needs to look full.

I found that this amount of foliage and flowers were perfect for the vase but I could have added a few more stems if I wanted to. Have fun with your Barwick vase, that’s really what it’s meant for! When the flowers start wilting, take them out and replace them with another.

To change the water, lift your lid and replace the water without worrying about messing up your arrangement. It’s brilliant!
