Now Blooming, Peonies

We're coming into the last week of locally grown Peonies here in BC and wanted to take a moment to celebrate these late springtime, early summer beauties.

One of our teams absolute favorites, these stunning blooms are the only frills to be seen with, nothing beats the variety of pink toned hues and the full bloom attraction they command.

The traditional flower for 12th wedding anniversaries, peonies represent romance and love, and are considered a good omen for a happy marriage. Brides LOVE to see them in their wedding arrangements and the white varieties such as Duchesse de Nemours work beautifully in a simple yet stunning bridal bouquet.

Originating from China, there are hundreds of varieties of peony, with plants that can live for hundreds of years! Some of our favorite varieties include:

Coral Charm

Sarah Bernhardt

Festiva Maxima

Red Charm

Duchesse de Nemours

We're not the only ones that love peonies, Ants do too!

They are attracted to the delicious nectar found inside peony buds which helps the flowers bloom. In turn the ants protect the flower from any other insect invasion.

If you're growing peonies in your garden we recommend cutting your peonies early in the morning when they have less nectar on them, and ants aren't around as much yet.

Try to plant your peony bush away from your house to avoid any infestations and if the ants do make into your home with the peony, simple dip the peony head in a bowl of water to remove them before arranging.

You can enjoy these beauties and more as part of our Weekly Offerings Collection that changes with each floral season.
